A magnitude 6.8 earthquake strikes in Port-Olry, Vanuatu – USGS

Reuters, August 18 - Authorities stated a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Port-Olry, Vanuatu, triggering a tsunami warning for nearby areas.

According to the US Geological Survey, the quake struck at a depth of 91 kilometers (56 miles) and was 19 kilometers north-west of Port-Olry. The USGS initially estimated the magnitude to be 7.1 and the depth to be 83.3 kilometers.

Hazardous waves were possible for coasts within 300 kilometers of the epicentre, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
